Utah Drunk Driving Accidents Prevented

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

Utah Drunk Driving Accidents PreventedNew Year’s Eve is a time of annual celebration and New Year’s resolutions, but this past holiday was a special one specifically because of the increased awareness of potential drunk drivers.   The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the Utah Highway Patrol instilled a so-called ‘blitz’.  A blitz is fundamentally when more than 50 troopers are involved in a mission.  This particular mission had the support of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and officiated a 12-hour period of an increased number of troopers on the highways.  The result was a victorious effort which prevented numerous Utah drunk driving accidents and consequently made New Year’s Eve a great memory for many rather than a night of anguish.  The highway patrol ultimately arrested 72 individuals who were suspected to be under the influence of alcohol, including a 19 year-old female who backed into trooper’s vehicle with a blood alcohol level of twice the legal limit.

Drunk Driving Accidents and Accident Books

Drunk driving could possibly lead to fatal consequences, which can be very much prevented.  Even though New Year’s Eve in the Salt Lake Valley was deemed safer through the great efforts from highway patrolmen, this is not the case every night.  Included is a list of statistics about drunk driving provided by MADD, which we all should ponder:

- An average drunk driver has driven drunk 80 times before first arrest.

- MADD serves a victim or survivor of drunk driving every nine minutes.
- This year, 10,839 people will die in drunk-driving crashes – one every 50 minutes.

- One in three people will be involved in an alcohol-related crash in their lifetime.

- Every minute, one person is injured from an alcohol-related crash.

- 50 to 75% of convicted drunk drivers continue to drive on a suspended license.

- Drunk driving costs each adult in this country almost $500 per year.

- Since 1980 MADD has nearly saved 300,000 lives …and counting.

If you or a loved one should unfortunately become a victim of a drunk driver, there is assistance available for you.  The Christensen Law Firm compassionately represents each client with a personal touch.  We offer free accident books which will aid you in fully understanding the rights of all parties involved with the incident.  For a free accident book call 1-800 LAW BOOK.

A Personal Injury Attorney Talks About Sarah Burke’s Fatal Injury and $200,000 In Medical Debt

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

A Personal Injury Attorney Talks About Sarah Burke’s Fatal Injury and $200,000 In Medical DebtThe Salt Lake Tribune reported that famous skier Sarah Burke, while preparing for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Park City, tore a vertebral artery causing her brain to bleed.  She was held at the University of Utah Neuro-critical care unit for nine days until she passed away on January 10th.  Because Sarah is a Canadian citizen she was not covered under any healthcare plan while in the United States, thus her family inherited an estimated $550,000 in medical expenses, of which $200,000 will be charged to them.  At this time, the University of Utah is working with Health Canada to determine what kind of coverage plans are available to pay for the expenses. Currently there is a website set up in the honor of Sarah Burke to raise funds to help her family pay for any medical expenses for which they will be held responsible.  This family not only had to bury their beloved daughter and wife, they have to worry about incurred debt resulting from her fatal injury.  Sarah’s family makes great examples of why appointing a personal injury attorney can be beneficial in such a traumatic time.  We express our sincere condolences to Sarah Burke’s family at this time.

Free Accident Books

In truth, such an event could happen to anyone. Although there is perhaps a greater inherent risk in a career such as professional skiing, we are never fully in control of our environments and accidents like these can occur. Even in accidents such as this one, some compensation can be sought in certain legal conditions. We had such a client not too long ago, injured in a snowboarding accident, for whom compensation was achieved and which allowed him to pay those sometimes stifling medical bills.

At The Christensen Law Firm, we are dedicated to fighting for the rights of those who are in need of legal assistance.  We provide an array of free accident books to the public as a tool in informing you on your legal rights in the case you are involved in a traumatic event.  One of our main values is the compassion with which we handle our cases.  For a free accident book call 1-800 LAW BOOK.

USU Student Fatally Wounded in Car Accident

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012

USU Student Fatally Wounded in Car AccidentAccording to The Salt Lake Tribune, yesterday a student from Utah State University was fatally wounded from a crash involving a trailer while driving westbound on I-84. Unfortunately in this case the individual did not survive.  Our condolences go out to her family in this tragic time — devastating car crashes such as this happen much too frequently and each is a tragic event for the community as a whole. If you or a loved one is injured in a car accident, an auto accident attorney Salt Lake City may be able to assist you.   An auto accident attorney acts as an advocate for their clients ensuring they receive any compensation that they deserve relating to their injury.

Auto Accident Attorney Outlines Seven Biggest Mistakes

There are seven big mistakes clients could make after being injured.  The 7 Biggest Mistakes That Can Wreck Your Utah Accident Case, written by attorney Kenneth L. Christensen, states them in order of what they are to enlighten you on how to take care of yourself legally in such a difficult time of your life.  The mistakes are as follows:

1.  Delay or do nothing.  Never wait to receive treatment for your injuries; it could possibly make it difficult to prove the injuries were caused by the accident.

2.  Failing to tell your doctor everything.  The insurance companies will base the value of your case on your doctor’s conclusions and the critical information in your medical records.

3.  Not following your doctor’s orders.  It will be hard to judge the seriousness of your injury if you don’t take the doctors advice.

4.  Hiding past accidents and injuries from your lawyers.  In the case the insurance company finds any record of you receiving healthcare for a previous accident, your lawyer will already know about it and could handle it properly.

5.  Misrepresenting your activity level.  Many insurance companies hire private investigators to conduct videotape surveillance on you.  If you say you can run but they catch you on your lunch running then your case is out the window.

6.  Waiting too long to seek legal help.  Utah law requires you file your personal injury lawsuit within a certain amount of time, known as a “statute of limitations.”

7.  Not working as a team with your lawyer.  Your attorney is in charge of handling your case but may need you to fill out certain documentation or answering discovery requests (formal, written requests for information).

Recovering from an injury alone could be frustrating and largely inconvenient.  Add the stress of dealing with insurance companies and it could be an extremely difficult process.  The Christensen Law Firm is here for you.  Their prestigious but compassionate service will ensure you gain what you deserve.  By reading one of their copies from their accident books collection, you will learn about your rights and the laws surrounding your injury.  Call 1-800 LAW BOOK for a free accident book today.

Trucking Accident Attorney Needed After Woman is Killed On I-215

Friday, January 13th, 2012

Trucking Accident Attorney Needed After Woman is Killed On I-215SALT LAKE CITY— A trucking accident attorney may have to get involved due to truck driving negligence.  After pulling to the side of the road and exiting her vehicle, Beth Tregnaghi, 45, was struck by an oncoming box truck that had changed lanes and gone too far to the right.  The truck pinched her between the two vehicles, putting her in extremely critical condition.  Witnesses say she was well off the road when she was hit.

The woman’s tragic death is an example of the injurious accidents that occur around Utah every day that may be remedied through the justice system.

Christensen Law Firm, PLLC, seeks to protect the rights of individuals who are seeking a trucking accident attorney.  They have the victim’s best interests in mind.  If you or someone you know has been victimized by the carelessness of a truck driver, then you may need the help of this specialized firm’s advocacy.  To understand more about your rights as a victim in a trucking accident, the Christensen Law Firm, PLLC, offers a series of Utah accident books that explain your rights as a victim.  The books also explain what a trucking accident attorney will do for you.

Having basic understanding about your case and what you are entitled to is vital to compensation.  Two things must be proven for your case to be viable: first, someone else was careless or negligent; and second, the other person’s carelessness caused you harm.  If you are found more responsible than the person who caused you harm, your case will not be beneficial to pursue.

It is important to understand that, in Utah, the law of comparative negligence controls how much money you can receive, if any, from the harm doer.  If you are found to be partially responsible for the accident, then the jury will reduce the amount of compensation according to the percentage you were found to contribute to the accident. For example, if you were found to be 20% at fault for causing the accident, the jury will reduce the compensation 20%.   If the jury finds you were at least 50% at fault for your injuries, you will recover nothing.  That is, unfortunately, the law.

If you have been victimized by the negligence of a truck driver, then a trucking accident lawyer from Christensen Law Firm, PLLC can help.  Read the Utah Accident Books, offered to you for free, and give them a call: 801 506-0800.

Personal Injury Resulting From Texting While Driving

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

Personal Injury From Texting While DrivingTexting while driving is becoming an increasingly large issue, despite state bans being instituted in most states in recent years.  According to the Salt Lake Tribune, one such devastating case was last year when a 19 year old driver from Missouri caused a vehicle pile-up due to texting while driving that killed two individuals.  It was apparent he was distracted by something while behind the wheel, for it was recorded that he had received eleven text messages in the eleven minutes leading up to the accident.  Fortunately, most of the people involved in the pile-up survived.  In such an event, a personal injury lawyer Utah is critical in assisting one to handle the legal implications following an injury.

Personal Injury Law

A lot can happen in a day, and unfortunately personal injuries could be included in a day’s events.  Whether the personal injury results from someone texting while driving or due to a bicycle accident, the result could have significant consequences, including physical, mental, emotional, and legal.  Ultimately, a personal injury case means that someone has been injured.

Although a personal injury could be a major inconvenience, the following damages may be recovered following an accident:

-medical expenses

-wage and income loss

-disfigurement

-pain and suffering

-survivors loss

This list of damages that may be recovered is just one example of the legal aid a personal injury lawyer could provide.  After being involved in a car accident during college and seeing first hand how difficult it is to deal with insurance companies while maintaining work and other personal responsibilities, attorney Kenneth Christensen is here to assist you.  The Christensen Law Firm has an array of free accident books that will help you know how to act following a personal injury.  To receive an accident book, call the Christensen Law Firm as your earliest convenience at 1-800 LAW BOOK.

How A Personal Injury Attorney Can Help A Nation Of Tired People

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Personal Injury Car AccidentThe best part of insomnia is sole possession of the remote control.  The worst part?  The morning.  And most of the afternoon.  And the early evening.

ABC News has declared the United States a “nation of tired people” following a report in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

According to the report, an estimated 50 million to 70 million U.S. adults experience chronic sleep disorders which leads to daytime nodding off.  This may lead to trouble with your boss but it can lead to even more serious trouble if it occurs when you are driving.

Most of us believe that there are a lot more fall asleep crashes than reported,” said Dr. Allan Pack, director of the Center for Sleep at University of Pennsylvania. “This is probably just the tip of the iceberg. It’s probably not reported accurately because a number of states don’t even having a ‘falling asleep while driving’ tick in the box when reporting a car crash.  I’m not sure that people understand the biology of all this. I think people believe that if they cut back on their sleep there is no real consequence. Everyone knows the dangers of alcohol, but I don’t think people understand the dangers of drowsy driving.

In a survey conducted for the study, about one in 20 participants admitted that they had dozed off while driving at least once in a month.

This can lead to someone veering off of the road.  But unfortunately, it also leads to horrible and tragic accidents if the car enters another lane.  If you’ve recently been injured due to the negligence of another, you should contact an experienced personal injury attorney. The personal injury lawyers at the Christensen Law Firm can help.  They offer free consultations, peace of mind, and excellent results.  Contact them today at 801-506-0800.
