A 17 year old boy was hit by a car after ignoring the crosswalk and running across the street. Sandy Police Lt. Craig Watson stated the teenager was coming out from a 7-Eleven store on the northwest corner of 10600 South and 700 East at around 6:45 a.m. He then ran across the road north of the crosswalk. At this point, a motorist headed east on 10600 South and turning north onto 700 East hit the teenager.
Investigators stated the teenager was wearing a dark coat and that the driver did not see him.
The motorist was reported to have called immediately for help. The boy had some of his teeth knocked out. After the accident he also complained of chest pain and he was transported to a local hospital in a stable condition.
Authorities disclosed that it will be unlikely that charges will be filed against the driver since the teen did not use the cross walk. They said it would be an entirely different matter if the teenager was struck by the vehicle in the cross walk.
Authorities added that they have no idea if the driver of the car that struck the teenager had any injury but they presumed that any driver would be shaken upon seeing somebody’s blood in his car and not knowing if you had killed somebody.
