A road accident in Payson involving 7 vehicles was reported Monday afternoon. Three people were listed in critical condition and another in serious condition. According to Utah Highway Patrol officials there was heavy traffic on the road because of on-going construction in the area. The reported accident occurred in the number one lane as a car occupying the number two lane swerved to avoid another vehicle. The sudden change of lane resulted in a domino effect with 7 cars.
Three people were critically injured, one seriously injured, and two had minor injuries. All of the people involved in the crash were wearing their seat belts.
This is one of several serious car accidents to occur during Memorial Day weekend. Utah Highway Patrol officials refer to the time between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day as the “100 Deadliest Days” because of the number of severe wrecks. The months of June to August are marked with an increase in road traffic as a result of increased summer activities. Most people will be in a state of excitement and may be eager to arrive to their destination on time, thereby increasing the incidence of car crashes.
Swerving is a driving act that usually catches other motorists by surprise. This usually happens in a blink of an eye and not everyone on the road can make good decisions in seconds.
We hope for the fast recovery of the victims of this accident. We at Christensen & Hymas encourage everyone to be safe on the road. Always adhere to safe driving practices and share the road.
