Utah Highway Patrol trooper Todd Johnson disclosed that a piece of metal debris on the road near Parrish Lane caused a minor car crash, prompting three motorists to pull over into the emergency lane. They then got out of their vehicles to exchange information.
While the motorists were still outside of their vehicles, a Land Rover heading north struck the debris on the roadway. The Rover veered to the right and struck the three vehicles parked in the emergency lane, including the three drivers.
One of those injured was a 16 year-old girl. She was flown to an area hospital and is listed as being in extremely critical condition as of Thursday. The other two motorists were taken to the hospital by ambulance with serious injuries. The driver of the Land Rover was not injured.
I-15 northbound was closed at Parrish Lane in Centerville including northbound exit ramps at 2600 South, 500 South, 400 North and 500 West according to Utah Department of Transportation. UDOT advised all those heading north to divert to Legacy Highway. The two hour road closure allowed authorities to conduct an investigation regarding the crash.
