Fox 13 reported an accident that happened on Highway 89 near Layton involving a semi-truck loaded with ice cream. According to the report the truck crashed and caught fire at around 2:15 p.m. near Sunset Drive in Layton.
The driver identified as Mo Ewaishy was not seriously injured. The driver told authorities that his saliva went down his windpipe causing him to cough violently. He wanted to pull over but the shoulder of the road was too narrow. He decided, while still coughing, to cross to the shoulder of the southbound lanes, narrowly hitting two cars in the process, and then he hit the brakes.
The semi jack-knifed and a guard rail tore the fuel tank of the truck which caused the cabin to go up in flames. The driver told authorities that the truck leaned into a tree after it jack-knifed, preventing the truck from flipping over.
Mo Ewaishy immediately exited through the passenger door upon seeing the flames. He said that he was glad that he survived the accident by the grace of God.
