A father and son from Utah County were reported to be involved in a fatal car crash that resulted in the death of the 59- year-old father and in the son being hospitalized for injuries.
Authorities did not release the names pending notification of the family.
According to the news article, the 16-year-old son was driving the car that went off a switchback Thursday.
Juab County Sheriff’s Lt. Brent Pulver said the teen was driving along the Nebo Loop Road when the vehicle went off the road near the Red Creek Flats area just after 2 p.m. Investigators are working to determine why the car went off the road.
The report disclosed that the car rolled down an embankment and landed on the switchback below. Lt. Brent Pulver of the Juab County Sherriff’s office said the father was pronounced dead at the scene and the son was transported in serious condition by ambulance to Central Valley Hospital in Nephi.
Pulver was quoted as saying that the teen was conscious and talking when he was taken from the scene.
The Nebo Loop Road is described as narrow and winding with sections of hairpin curves affords incredible views of the Wasatch Range and its tallest mountain, 11,929-foot Mt. Nebo. A switchback refers to “road or trail joined by hairpin turn.”
