An accident in Salt Lake‘s canyon last Wednesday morning, has left a bicyclist in serious condition. This accident comes as the second most serious bicycle/vehicle accident in SLC this year.
According to the report, a cyclist was in critical condition after being hit by a teen driver in in Emigration Canyon. It was disclosed that the Cottonwood Heights man (whose name was not immediately released) was biking about 8 a.m. three miles up Emigration Canyon near 4200 East when a 17-year-old girl was driving down.
Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said the teen driver veered into the incoming traffic for unknown reason and hit the cyclist. Authorities have ruled out speed and impairment as factors for the accident. Police are still investigating what caused the teen driver to veer to incoming traffic.
The first serious car-bicycle accident was recorded on October 24 of this year. This accident involved a 78 year old driver who was allegedly distracted by looking at fall colors that he drove into oncoming traffic and collided with a bicycle head-on. The head-on collision killed 3rd District Judge Anthony B. Quinn, 60 who was riding his bike up Millcreek Canyon.
