A biker was reported to have suffered injury from a crash last Sunday. According to the report, the biker lost control of his mountain bike resulting in the crash that injured his leg.
According to the article, a friend called authorities to report that a biker identified as Charles Lyons, 35, has sustained a compound fracture from a biking accident. However, Unified police detective Jared Richardson said that when medical crews were able to make contact, they found out it wasn’t a compound fracture; however, the injury did prevent him from walking.
Lyons was taken by Life Flight helicopter off the mountain from Desolation Lake Trail to Cardiff Fork in Big Cottonwood Canyon, where Unified firefighters were waiting. They then transport him to Intermountain Medical Center. Detective Jared Richardson disclosed that Lyons had been on that trail several times before, but lost control as he went around a corner.
Another thing that delayed the rescue were the several groups on the ridge line that were waving to the helicopter. The pilot of the helicopter was confused as to which group had the victim. Richardson reminded hikers and bikers not to draw attention to themselves if they are not in trouble. Rescue efforts depend so much on the time element and the sooner the victim is transported to a medical facility, the better it will be for the injured person.
