The young man was identified in a recent report as Douglas Brandon Herring of Goshen. Douglas was arrested by authorities and is under investigation for driving under the influence after running over his mother. The incident occurred last Monday when the young man’s parents tried to stop him from leaving home at around 11 p.m.
Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon stated that Douglas ran over his mother with his pickup truck. Cannon added that Herring’s mother fell and was hit by the truck. She was taken by medical helicopter to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center with broken bones and lacerations. The woman was still at the hospital and recovering on Tuesday.
The report stated that Deputies said Herring’s behavior at the scene were indicative of drug and alcohol use. It was disclosed that Deputies obtained a warrant after Herring refused to comply with drug tests. Allegedly, the blood and urine samples taken from Herring tested positive for methamphetamine.
The report added that Herring was booked into the Utah County Jail and is being charged with inflicting serious bodily injury while driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license, and driving without insurance. It was also disclosed that a search of court records revealed Herring took a plea in abeyance in September for consuming alcohol as a minor.
