Utah Highway Patrol had its hands full with a total of 304 accidents on the Wasatch Front during Tuesday’s heavy snow storm. The report stated that Utah Highway Patrol reported a total 167 crashes in Salt Lake County with 20 injuries, 75 accidents in Utah County with seven injuries and 62 accidents in Davis County.
In a related article, it was reported that a semitrailer veered off the snowy freeway causing it to rollover. Police said around 7:43 a.m., the truck was traveling west bound on I-80 at mile marker 172 near Coalville, when it struck the right hand barrier. The driver over-corrected to the left and caused the truck to veered off the road and roll over. It was disclosed that the semitrailer was carrying cases of beer through Summit County when it rolled, speed was said to be a factor.
Snowy roads in Cottonwood Heights sent several drivers sliding down the hills. Cottonwood Heights police had their hands full when more than 16 cars went off the road or collided with other vehicles around 3:30 p.m.
It was also reported that seven drivers slid off the road and two more got in minor accidents. In order to remove the vehicles and plow the street before rush hour, police had to temporarily close Fort Union Boulevard. Eight cars were reported to have slid off the hilly road near Nantucket Drive and Oak Creek Drive. Fortunately, no serious injuries or damages were reported.
The snow made home commuting slow as number of cars slid off the road or slid into the car in front of them. Cars bumped into each other, hit the curb and damaged their wheels and a host of other problems because of the snowy conditions.
Authorities remind motorists to check your vehicle’s tires to make sure they can handle the snowy roads.
