U.S. 91 became a site of another tragic accident last Monday. An Idaho man identified as Alan Short was reported to have died after the car that he was driving rear-ended a flatbed farm truck hauling grain near the Utah-Idaho border.
Allan Short is just 37 years old when he was killed in this accident and is reported as a resident of Preston, Idaho.
According to the report, the accident happened at around 5:49 p.m. near Lewiston. A northbound truck slowe
d to a stop in the left lane to make a left turn into a pasture. Utah Highway patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson stated that this truck was rear ended by a car at a highway speed.
The report indicated that there were no passengers in either vehicle. The driver of the truck was described as a a 16 year old teenager. The truck driver was reported uninjured by the accident.

- Extends the distance necessary to stop a vehicle;
- Increases the distance a vehicle travels while the driver reacts to a situation;
- Reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around curves or objects in the road;
- Decreases the effectiveness of vehicle design features, such as seat belts;
- Reduces the stability of the vehicle structure;
- Increases the number of crashes;
- Increases the severity of crashes. For every 10 MPH over 50 MPH, the risk of death in a crash is doubled.
