A near fatal accident involving a 5 year old in St. George, Utah was averted by the quick actions of a police officer.
According to the news report, the boy got his head stuck in a car window near 1490 East Foremaster Drive on Aug. 25. The boy allegedly put his head out of the window and then accidentally stepped on the switch causing the window to roll up and close on the boy’s throat.
The press release from the St. George Police Department also stated that the boy had stopped breathing and went into cardiac arrest. The adults who were with the child could not get the window to roll down because the switch malfunctioned during the incident.
The report disclosed that the boy was freed from the window by a police officer who smashed the window and then worked with another officer to provide life saving measures.
Officers and paramedics on the scene were able to re-establish the boy’s pulse. The boy was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. He was later transported by Life Flight helicopter to Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City.
The boy is reported to have made significant progress and is expected to make a full recovery.
The child’s family expressed their gratitude to the St. George Police Department, Gold Cross Ambulance, Dixie Regional Medical Center, Life Flight and Primary Children’s Medical Center.
