Man in critical condition after bizarre motorcycle accident FOX13Now.comA story from Fox13 brings us news of a man in West Valley, Utah who is in critical condition after a rather unusual accident.

The crash happened on Sate Road 201 in West Valley City at about 2:00 am Sunday morning.

The motorcyclist was speeding and may have been drunk as he crashed his vehicle into the back of a pickup truck. The collision sent the cyclist flying into the truck bed. The truck driver, unaware of his new passenger, kept moving forward. The man reported hearing a loud thud, but he thought he had hit a pot hole so he kept driving.

An unusual case indeed. Sgt. Donavan Lucas of the Utah Highway Patrol said, “I’ve been doing this for 18 years, and this is the first time someone actually landed in the back of the truck, and they drove off the freeway to somewhere else. The guy had no idea that he was in the back of the vehicle.”

The driver exited the freeway before discovering the man and calling the police. The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital in critical condition, with two broken arms and unsurprisingly some head injuries. Police reported the man’s breath smelled like alcohol.

If you are operating any vehicle, it is extremely important to be sober. But the statistics on motorcyclists deaths are staggering.  From the Marine&Family Programs website  one year, out of the 2,007 motorcycle operators killed in single-vehicle crass, FORTY-ONE% had blood alcohol levels of .08 or higher.

From all of us at Christensen & Hymas, keep yourself safe when you are out there on a motorcycle. You’re already more exposed and vulnerable on the road, so make sure you are fully aware of your surroundings when driving!
