Female Cyclist Critically Injured in a Hit-and-Run Incident

A 43-year-old female cyclist was reported to be riding her bike southbound on the shoulder of 2300 East when she was clipped by the driver. According to the accident report, the driver allegedly circled back after striking the Millcreek woman before driving away. Police said she was transported to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition. The report stated that police are now searching for the hit-and-run suspect. According to Lieutenant Justin Hoval, the driver abandoned the victim and continued to drive recklessly. Police are not sure if the man was drunk, distracted or tired, the report added. They hope to find the man and question why he drifted off the roadway and struck the cyclist. Hoyal said that the driver was seen entering a Fresh Market parking lot in Millcreek and almost hit another car. The Fresh Market, located at 3900 South and 2300 East, was able to capture the incident in a surveillance video, which they gave to police authorities. Police described the driver allegedly responsible for the hit-and-run accident, as a white male in his 30s with short, spikey brown hair. Unified Police said he was driving a 2001-2003 Acura with a temporary registration tag and extensive damage to the passengerside windshield and front fender. Christensen & Hymas hope the police will find the driver as soon as possible. We encourage all motorists to drive responsibly. We also do not condone hit-and-run behavior. There could be a valid explanation or reason why the accident happened, but there is no way a driver can justify abandoning an injured person. Cyclists Harassed in Colorado

Two cyclists were harassed by a motorist yesterday for more than five minutes, much of which was captured on a video the two took of their ride and posted to YouTube. Cyclist Dirk Friel and his riding companion were entirely within their rights as cyclists as they rode single file when a driver in an SUV came upon them and began honking and approaching their bicycles at dangerous proximities. The cyclists motioned for the driver to pass, and there was plenty of room to do so; yet the driver remained, and the two finally took out their cameras and began to film. Colorado State Patrol is investigating; they have already identified the driver and now are looking at possible charges. Such events are truly frightening. Apparently, few motorists understand that cyclists have as much right to the road as they do—this is the law. When such events lead to harm for the cyclist, help may be necessary in order to hold the driver accountable and receive compensation for their injuries in the accident. A Breakdown of Statutes of Limitations One of the most important issues in any bicycle accident is the statute of limitations. The statute of limitations is the window during which a lawyer can bring your case to court. The specific statute of limitations for most cases is 4 years; there are, however, some exceptions. For example, if the liable party is a government office, the statute of limitations is only 1 year. Due to the statute of limitations it is important for you to file your case with a Utah bicycle accident attorney as soon as possible. Failing to do so may jeopardize your potential to receive financial and other compensation for your injuries. Accident cases can go on for months, and even years, so if you have been injured in a bicycle accident, we strongly recommend you talk with one of our Utah bicycle accident lawyers immediately.
