2010_1106_112920AAA University of Utah football player was reported to be critically injured in a motorized bike accident that happened Sunday night. According to University officials, the player, a redshirt defensive lineman for the Utes, was identified as Moana Ofahengaue. The article added that the player sustained a serious head injury after crashing a scooter near Hempstead Rd. and Mario Capecchi Drive.

The report did not yet indicate whether or not Ofahengaue was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash or if there were any contributing factors like drugs, alcohol, or drowsy driving.

According to Kathy Wilets—who is over University Hospital Public Affairs—family members of Ofahengaue are optimistic about his recovery and are thankful for the support they have received.

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham stated that they are praying for Moana’s recovery and for his family’s strength at this very difficult time. Coach Whittingham affirms that Maona is a beloved member of the team and that they will support his recovery in any way they can.
