A tragic accident occurred today wherein two Hunter High School students were killed and several others injured. Jacob Armijo and Avery Brock, both 16 years of age, the driver and front seat passenger, respectively, were killed when their vehicle swerved into southbound lanes on 5600 West around 12:15 pm. They hit Monica Hood, who was seriously injured in the collision, and taken to a local hospital. Two other passengers in Armijo’s vehicle, Cassidy Porter and Leticia Cordero, were also seriously injured in the crash and taken to the hospital.
It is not immediately known the reason why Armijo’s Honda Civic swerved into southbound traffic and into Monica Hood. Witnesses purport that a Jeep may have cause Armijo to swerve out of his lane, but police do not have a definitive answer at this point.
Students held an impromptu gathering around the high school’s flagpole Wednesday night as they honored the lives of the two young men. We wish the families of the deceased, students of the school, and all others affected whatever measure of peace may be felt at this time. We also hope for the swift recovery of Monica Hood, Cassidy Porter and Leticia Cordero.
