The accident occurred about 3 p.m. last Friday on state Route 191 according to Utah Highway Patrol report. The report further stated that a Nissan Maxima, driven by David Lewis, 28, of Saginaw, TX, struck an oncoming Hyundai Azera after it attempted to pass a semitrailer in a no-passing zone. The Nissan Maxima stopped spinning as a result of the impact but the Cadillac DTS spun off the shoulder and came to a stop.

The passengers of the Nissan Maxima were Juan Vidales, seated in the front passenger seat, and Stephanie Vidales, seated at the back together with her 10-year-old daughter. Mother and daughter were ejected from the vehicle but the daughter suffered only minor injuries from the accident that killed her mother.

The news report also mentioned that a northbound Toyota Camry that was travelling behind the Hyundai avoided the collision but was hit by debris. The driver was reported uninjured.

Utah Highway Patrol disclosed that the San Juan County Attorney’s Office was screening possible charges against Lewis, who was Stephanie Vildales’ boyfriend.
