1 Year After Near-Fatal Car Accident Family Celebrates Miraculous Survival

According to Deseret News, one year ago  on March 24th, Andrew Roush miraculously survived a head-on car accident when a woman who was driving recklessly struck him.  As Andrew was dropping his children off at school, his daughter reminded him to wear his seatbelt. He went to drive away and the next thing he knew he was feeling a severe pain in his chest. Though he thought he was having a heart attack, he was in fact pinched behind his steering wheel. EMT worked to quickly remove him from his vehicle.  While suffering a crushed pelvis, shattered femur, broken foot, and toes, he had to endure six operations, one of which screwed in a plate holding his femur together.  One of those surgeries eventually replaced the plate with a rod.  After nine days in the hospital and over a month in rehabilitation, Andrew has much to be thankful for since last March.  His story is one that proves how generous our communities are in America.  Family, friends, neighbors, and citizens across the country and world have donated time, money, and inspiring notes to encourage Andrew to keep going.  One family even dropped off keys for a new car for the family while neighbors helped to build a ramp into the house for Andrew’s wheelchair.  This week was indeed a time of celebration and gratitude. Human Generosity Science Daily has reported certain research that proves that humans have always been generous.  Regardless of social pressures, humans have shown the act of being generous, no matter the circumstances.  Hearing Andrew’s story and how grateful he is will tug at anyone’s heart,...

82 Year-Old Man’s Wrongful Death Accident Inspires Crosswalk Safety Initiatives

According to KSL, after last month’s wrongful death accident involving an 82 year-old pedestrian, police officials have began enhancing crosswalk safety measures.  The victim was hit by a bus while walking across a downtown Salt Lake City crosswalk.  He was deeply involved in the Salt Lake community and had spent years walking the city.  This tragic incident has inspired the city to educate the community on the safety precautions of using a crosswalk.  In the case you experience the fatal accident of a loved one, communicating with a Utah wrongful death lawyer is the best source of information you can receive. Crosswalk Safety Tips When walking downtown, crosswalks are abundant and difficult to miss.  Due to the availability of parking spaces, some people have to walk a few blocks to get to their destination.  Detective Josh Ashdown from the Salt Lake City Police Department has reported to KSL several tips on how to avoid danger while using a crosswalk; the modified list includes: 1.  Avoid any distraction – keep your iPod and cell phone in your pocket or purse. 2.  Don’t race the crosswalk clock – always remain slow and calm so you can pay attention to your surroundings. 3.  Don’t blindly trust white lines – they don’t exactly prevent a car from hitting you.  Their purpose is show the driver what space is designated for pedestrians. 4.  Be especially careful at night – make yourself visible to all drivers and bring a flashlight. The MPH Math Question and How It Relates To Personal Injuries

The MPH Math Question and How It Relates To Personal Injuries

A few days ago a young couple traveling from Logan, UT to Boise, ID had an amusing argument which now has been exploited for the world to see.  This hilarious video consists of one simple question:  if you are traveling at 80 MPH, how long will it take you to travel 80 miles?  The wife completely overshot the answer by including her own theory about how the tire rotation affects the answer.  She even discusses how the speed at which she can run a mile correlates into answering such a question.  Unfortunately, math is not her forte.  And even more apparent, being nice to your wife is not her husband’s forte.  Most importantly, the idea of videoing yourself and your wife in the car while driving is the most questionable and absurd aspect of the video.  This sort of behavior is a car accident waiting to happen and would likely result in a personal injury or death.  If you should become a victim in an accident due to such behavior, hiring a personal injury lawyer may be the smartest decision resulting from the whole incident. 3 Tips for Preventing Dog Bites

3 Tips for Preventing Dog Bites

Over a week ago, Deseret News reported on an incident involving a rescued Argentine mastiff that bit a reporter in the face while she was reporting on his rescue.  As the story goes, the mastiff was walking off leash with his owner when a coyote appeared.  The mastiff then chased after the coyote and fell into icy water.  Firefighters came to rescue the dog, over the course of which it was very cooperative.  As the reporter, Kyle Dyer, was reporting on the recently transpired events, she decided to pet the dog and his immediate response was to bite her.  Although Dyer is doing well, she had to be hospitalized.  The dog was impounded and the owner was cited as usual.  In this particular case, hiring a dog bite attorney is probably the single-most important decision this reporter could make. Dog Bite Accident Book Published By Dog Bite Attorney Dogs are great animals that provide their owners with amazing companionship and personality; however, dogs can be dangerous.  Despite how nice dogs may be, they still have natural animalistic instincts.  In the case above, this mastiff may have been quite gentle, but with the stress of the situation and the attention thereafter, the dog may have acted out of character.  Regardless, there is no telling how a dog will react, just as it is unlikely to predict the actions of a three year-old.  Protecting yourself from a dog bite is as essential as wearing your seat belt in a vehicle.  The following prevention tips are included for your protection: Get to know a dog first before petting a dog; Never provoke...
5 Ways To Keep Kids Safe At School

5 Ways To Keep Kids Safe At School

According to KSL5, Utah school zones are becoming more dangerous. The increasing number of parents who wish to drive their kids to school has increased traffic around school zones. I find this information troubling and wish to raise awareness of the issue, thus helping parents get the information they need in order to ensure their kids’ safety. The KSL5 news story reported that 46% of kids arrive at school via the family car. With the sheer amount of cars, buses, parents, and children at the school, it is important to know the layout of the school. Many schools have designated pick-up and drop-off zones, aside from bus zones. The parents dropping off and picking up their kids should be aware of these zones and comply with the school regulations. School parking lots have been found to be the most common areas for injuries to pedestrians under the age of 12. Children are shorter than adults, which fact makes them inherently more difficult to see. 5 Tips to Keep Your Kids Safe at School 1. Know the parking lot, drop-off, and pick-up zone procedures at your school; 2. Plan and expect your children’s pick-up and drop-off to take more time; 3. Never allow your children to roam the parking lot alone; 4. Educate your children about safe parking lot habits; and 5. Slow down, breath, and be polite. It does not take an accident attorney to know that accidents happen all too frequently, and they surely should not happen at our children’s schools. In order to prevent accidents, this information has been shared; in order to aid those who have...
